Karli had fallen in love with Villa Botanica long before she even met John. “I’ve loved this venue since I first heard about it many years ago,” she shared. So when they began planning their wedding, there was never really any question — this was where it would happen.
They discovered Villa Botanica in person while staying in Airlie Beach and seeing local signage reinforcing what Karli had already known in her heart.
A Venue Like No Other
On the day, the beauty of the venue captivated them both.
“Honestly, all of it. The architecture is like nothing else. I couldn’t stop taking in all the little details. The outdoor bath and the balcony of the rooms were probably my favourites.”
Their evening celebration exceeded every expectation. Surrounded by an incredible bridal party and supportive guests, the night was beautiful, funny, and simply ‘the best’.
“Our bridal party entrances were the highlight of our night — they set the whole mood for the evening.”
Weather, Wisdom & Being Present
Although the morning brought some challenges and rainy weather, Karli and John embraced it with grace.
“We understand that wet weather is just part of weddings in the tropics. In hindsight, we’re actually glad we had the verandah as a backup instead of the Sea Deck.”
Karli’s heartfelt advice to future couples:
“Let go of the things out of your control and just enjoy the unique moments of your day. Be as present as possible with your husband or wife.”
Planning Reflections
The couple enjoyed the planning journey overall, noting that Poppy, the planning app, was easy to use and helpful. They particularly appreciated the early conversations and connection with the team.
In the lead-up to the wedding, some last-minute changes created stress — particularly around supplier and planner updates — and Karli reflected on the importance of clear communication during such meaningful moments.
Despite the challenges, their overwhelming feeling is gratitude and wonder.
“The venue was stunning. We couldn’t stop soaking in the beauty around us.”
